Taste Bud Approved Caribbean, Cajun, and Creole Inspired Cuisines in Maplewood; This Is Boogaloo

Hey everyone and welcome back! My friend Sharee and I were way overdue for a girls night so we recently met up for food and drinks. We had a few options in mind and wound up going to Boogaloo being that Sharee has never been there until now. Boogaloo is located in Maplewood, MO and they offer Cuban, Creole, and Caribbean-Inspired cuisines.

I absolutely love eating at Boogaloo! The food here is so good that it’s even won some awards. Boogaloo won Sauce Magazine’s Readers Choice for Favorite Cajun/Creole in 2019 and they were also given an award for the best Happy Hour and After Dinner Drink by the Riverfront Times in 2012. Now that you have some of Boogaloo’s backstory, here is everything that we ordered.

Up first is drinks and appetizers. To drink, I ordered the Mango Tango ($8) and Sharee ordered the Louisiana Lemonade($9). For an appetizer, we also both ordered some of their Crab Empanadas ($12.) The drinks at Boogaloo are always really good and we loved the options that we chose.

The Mango Tango is made with Smirnoff Mango, Captain Pineapple, Orange & Lemon Juice.
The Louisiana Lemonade is made with Smirnoff Watermelon, Pineapple Rum, Blue Curacao, & Lemonade.

When I tell you that these Crab Empanadas were amazing?! OMG! They were so buttery and flaky on the outside but the inside was filled with delicious crab meat that was just full of flavor. The Crab Empanadas are also plated on top of this black bean puree and drizzled in this volcano sauce which was also really tasty. If you’re also a lover of empanadas, then you have to give these a try because they are

For an entrée, I got the House Smoked Jerk Chicken Sandwich ($12.50) and Sharee got the Fried Catfish Po’Boy ($9.95). That jerk chicken was seasoned and smoked to perfection and the sandwich also comes with pepper jack cheese and a remoulade sauce. The bun was perfectly toasted and the roasted plantains were also really good too. Sharee also loved her meal as well and even had to talk half of it home due to being so full. I on the other hand left nothing but crumbs on my plate and I am not ashamed. lol

If you’re looking for a great place to go to for happy hour, dinner, or lunch then Boogaloo is the place for you. I have been here multiple times and since the food and the hospitality are always so amazing, I just keep coming back. I highly recommend that you try out Boogaloo if you haven’t already and thanks so much for tuning in.

Until next time loves…

XO

Erica Leigh
