Hey everyone and welcome back! So for today’s food post, we switched it up a little bit. Have you ever had a bao? (It’s pronounced bow like Bow Wow lol) Or better yet, ever heard of one? If not, here is a little boa background information for you.
A boa is a type of filled bun or bread-like dumpling that is used in various Chinese cuisines. It’s usually filled with a pork mixture but you can use any type of meat that you would like. A bao is also closely related to a dumpling, but it’s just a little sweeter. The bao bun is also made out of yeast, flour, sugar, baking powder, milk and oil and is steamed in a bamboo type pan.
I’ve had a bao before and really enjoyed them but I had no clue that I could get them locally. My friend Candace and I went to this restaurant (before Covid-19 hit of course) so that we could try out their food because the pictures I saw online made my mouth water lol. Now what is the name of this restaurant you ask? It’s called The Bao and the food here is SO good! Would you like to see what we ordered? 👀
To start off, I ordered their Chicken Goyza’s. Which are a Japanese style dumpling filled with ground meat and vegetables. These were so good! They were also paired with this dipping sauce that gave the Goyza’s a nice little kick.
Candace ordered a drink called the Boulevardier and she said it was really good as well.
For lunch, I ordered the Fried Chicken Bao and it’s made with cabbage, pickled, and chimi mayo. It also comes with a side of fries. I didn’t know the bao was going to be THIS big and as soon as I took my first bite, I instantly was like..
This Fried Chicken Bao is so bomb and it’s also very filling. The bao bun is so soft and fluffy and the chicken is seasoned and cooked to perfection. I definitely give this bao Candace ordered the Kakuni Rice Bowl which is made with pork belly, pickle, cucumber, cilantro, fried shallots, and an onsen egg. She really loved her dish as well and had to take the rest home because she was so full.
Not only is the food at The Bao really good, but the hospitality was awesome as well. Our waiter was super nice and was very thorough in answering any of our questions. Plus, the aesthetic on the inside is really nice too.
Being that we are in the middle of a pandemic, you’re not able to dine in at The Bao until further notice however, they do have a great take out menu available. Not only can you mix and match different bao’s, you’re also able to order drinks to go as well.
I hope you enjoyed today’s food post and make sure you stop by and give The Bao a try! I can’t wait to go back and taste their soft-shell crab bao. 😋
Please continue to stay safe everyone and until next time…
